Grant Burns

Director Special Ores & Alloys at Noble Resources

Class of 2012

"If you are looking for a well-rounded EMBA and know you need a better understanding of China, then this has to be one of the best places. I was already considered an Asian specialist yet I found this deeper insight into China fascinating and fruitful."

The Process & Requirements

Because the TIEMBA Programme is an equal partnership between Tsinghua and INSEAD, you may submit your application through either institution as outlined below.

New entry requirement for PRC Nationals

China’s Ministry of Education has implemented a new requirement - PRC nationals who wish to enroll in an Executive MBA granted by a Chinese Institution, must register online for a pre-entry exam. The online registration system is open between 10 - 31 October 2017. The actual entry exam will be conducted in December 2017 at Tsinghua University in Beijing. We strongly encourage interested applicants to register for this pre-entry exam to be eligible to apply for the TIEMBA 2018 intake. For further details, please visit http://yz.chsi.com.cn/yzwb/ or contact tiemba@insead.edu.

The TIEMBA admissions process involves three steps:

Step 1: APPLICATION

Lodging your application through Tsinghua or INSEAD

Your application must include the following documents in order to be considered a valid application:

i

Application form

You may submit your application through Tsinghua or complete INSEAD's online application form. Your application will be evaluated equally by either admissions office.

Please note: applicants are required to answer several essay-style questions included in the application form.

ii

Letters of reference

Applicants are required to submit the testimony of two referees, (written in English)from individuals qualified to comment about your professional achievements and your career potential. These are not freehand letters, but online forms where your strengths will be ranked and specific open-ended questions will be posed. These forms are available via links included in your application. At least one of the letters should be written by a direct supervisor. The second letter is at your discretion, but should be someone who can speak to your potential.

iii

Official transcripts

Applicants are required to attach scanned copies of the official transcripts of their relevant degrees and diplomas in the Supporting Documents section of the online application form. Should applicants be admitted copies of transcripts must be officially certified and sent to our Admissions Office. Certification and submission can be done on any campus. Please coordinate with a marketing or admissions personnel.

For those sending, please forward transcripts or official copies to the applicable admission team:

Application fees & deadlines

A non-refundable application fee of US$250 is payable by all applicants.

The application deadlines for admission in June 2018 (Class of 2020) are as follows:

ROUND 1: 29 September 2017
ROUND 2: 12 January 2018

ROUND 3: 16 March 2018
ROUND 4: 20 April 2017

Note: Final admissions deadline for applicants from Macao, Hong Kong and Taiwan is Feb 2018.

Postponing your application submission to the next round

If you choose to delay submission of your application until the following round of the same intake, your application form details will be saved automatically. Note that access to your form will be temporarily disabled from 00:00am (Central European Time) on the day of the deadline, as the system will shutdown for about four days. Access to your form will resume once the temporary shutdown period ends, so you can continue editing it.

Please bear in mind that if you miss all four rounds of a particular intake, your application form and its entire contents will expire. At this point, you will be required to complete a new application from scratch, for the next intake.

We strongly recommend that completed applications reach the admissions office with respect to these deadlines. However, applications received in between deadlines are reviewed and processed.

The TIEMBA programme will commence early June 2016. Graduation is planned for mid January 2018.

Acknowledgement: Once your application is received, you will receive an acknowledgement via e-mail. If you do not receive any acknowledgement that your application has been received within two weeks of submission, please contact us:

Step 2: INTERVIEW

Upon receiving your application, it will be reviewed by the pre-selection teams. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.

Applications submitted via INSEAD:

Pre-selected candidates are invited to an interview with either a faculty member or an alumnus to complete the assessment. Interviews will take place on INSEAD's Asian or European campus, in your country of residence or via telephone/webconference.

Applications submitted via Tsinghua:

Pre-selected candidates are invited to a jury interview with the Dean, Director and/or senior alumni. Interviews take place on campus on a series of pre-defined dates.

Step 3: ADMISSION

Final review & admissions

On completion and documentation of the interview, the Admissions Committee will convene to review the application in full, and will make a decision regarding admission. The decision will be confirmed by both institutions. Applicants will be advised by mail or e-mail of the outcome as soon as a final decision is reached.
